Insects: Love ’em, Hate ’em, Gotta have ’em

The UNCG Sustainability Lecture and Dialogue Series returns with guest, Dr. Kim Komatsu, Associate Professor and Florence Schaeffer Distinguished Scholar of Science in the UNCG Department of Biology.

Description: Insects are everywhere, in our home, our yards, and the ecosystems around us. They play vital roles in the environment, including decomposition of waste, control of plants, and serving as food for other animals. Yet, most species of insects are on the decline globally. In this lecture, we will discuss how insects shape our environment for the good and bad, our current understanding of why they are on the decline, and what you can do to help.

Dr. Komatsu investigates how ecosystem responses to global change drivers are mediated by biotic processes. Specifically, she studies how ecosystem function is influenced by mutualisms, competition, consumers, and alterations in abiotic resource availability.
